Meet Dr. Jessica Kinkaid!
I want to start out by setting the record straight. To answer the question that many of you have asked- YES, the stories that you’ve all been following on the Kinkaid Family Chiropractic Facebook page are 100% true. These are our REAL patients and their REAL stories! Our promise to our readers is that we will NEVER post any fictionalized events or scenarios. You want the real, raw, truth? You got it! This is the story of why I, Dr. Jessica Kinkaid, decided to become a Chiropractor.
I began suffering from daily headaches and/or migraines around kindergarten/ 1st grade. I was a regular at the Nurse’s office and I found myself seeking over-the-counter medications such as Advil, Aleve, and Tylenol to help ease the pain. Growing up, my migraines were caused by a variety of things including swinging on the tire swing, roller coasters, reading, change in weather/temperature, eating certain foods, riding on the school bus and more. It seemed like all of my friends could function day-to-day without a migraine, yet, my life crashed to a dead stop every time the fun began.
My head would be pounding, I would become very sensitive to light and sound; and sometimes I would even vomit. This was no way for a young girl to live! I found myself avoiding social atmospheres because of the noise. If I left school early due to the severity of my migraines, I would go home, make my room as dark as I possibly could and go to sleep. Many hours later, I would wake up and be back to normal. Practically everyone in my family experienced migraines, but because of how young I was, they had a hard time understanding how I was in pain practically daily.
Finally, in 11th grade, I went to a local Chiropractor. I noticed a huge improvement with my headaches and migraines right away. In fact, I walked into the Chiropractors office with a headache, and left without one! I continued chiropractic care and the results continued, too. It was in 11th grade that I felt like I got my life back. I began going to the gym 4-5x/week and I was seeing some serious results! Once my headaches and migraines were under control, my true bubbly, and smiley personality was shining through. I was finally able to start socializing again. This was the way that life was supposed to be! Studying was much easier for me without a migraine. I buckled down and became very serious about my school work- so serious that I graduated from Guilderland High School early! After graduation, I immediately started college and continued year-round, even in the summer. I began as a “full time” student taking 12 credits and I became so ambitious that I started to take class loads of up to 23 credits per semester! I worked part time even with my crazy school load, which taught me to budget/value/schedule my time wisely. I knew that if I wanted to hang out with friends on a Friday or Saturday night, my school work needed to be completed, and it always was.
In my 2nd year of college, I reflected on my life and realized how much my Chiropractor helped me. I decided that if I could even help even ONE person as much as my chiropractor had helped me, it would all be worth it. Now, I am a Chiropractor, a very passionate one, who has helped lots of people and I can’t help but get excited about it! I have helped patients with migraines, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, sciatica, disc herniation’s, fibromyalgia, lower back pain, constipation, neck pain, and so much more! My daughter, Hollie, is 2 and a half and I remember going through the pregnancy struggles, so I have developed a passion for treating pregnant patients, and I’m really good at it!
The truth is, Chiropractic is amazing, and the more people I get my hands on, the more this hits home for me! You wanted the truth and this is as raw as it gets- I LOVE my patients and my staff, I am very lucky that I have the opportunity to change lives EVERY SINGLE DAY and I never want the fire inside of me to stop!
